60 pieces Coasters + 8 pieces of Tatting Doilies...

Cayden is turning 1 this Sunday!! So, mom Christie got me to make 60 pieces of coasters for her guests and 8 pieces of tatting doilies for her relatives. She has approached me more than a month ago, cos she knew that tatting is not easy... Thanks for her understanding. I would say, this is one of the biggest orders I have!

Thanks to her too, cos I have a chance to 'practice' my tatting, though I've wasted quite a lot of thread =P, it's still worth to try!

IMG_4899

They are really lovely. I'm using variegated Floral thread that I bought from Jessica and Ellen. The size of the doily is around 9cm. I hope Christie's relatives will like them too..

Besides that, there are something for the guests... 60 pieces of crocheted coasters... I got Betsy to help me to crochet half of them, cos I knew I won't have enough time to complete all. Thanks to Betsy for her help.

I bought the yarn from Betsy. It's a Japanese cotton yarn. Dear Betsy is selling her yarns online and her pricing is very reasonable... *Tsk*Tsk*

Tatted Doily

Gosh! The drilling & hacking sounds are driving me NUTS!!! The whole block is participating in this upgrading program. Upgrading program includes: lift upgrading, replacing toilet and kitchen piping and installing new clothes hanging rack...

The noise has affected me greatly but I have no choice but bear with it... Thank God Joel is fine with the noise. He still can sleep through the noise!!

What I've been doing for the past week? Well, despite the noise, I've completed a few stuffs... Mainly helping Betsy on an order and making something for my dear brother. Will blog about them soon. Stay tune!

This is a tatted doily that I've made during my confinement... Suppose to give to someone but I was too late... :( Will have to post over then...

I love the color very very much. It's Flora thread that I've bought from Jessica.

New Year Exchange #2

Needle & Shuttle (NnS) has organized a swap during new year. I was excited cos my partner is Faizon! She is our tatting guru! Visit her site and you'll be impressed by her tatting works.

This round of exchange, we'll have to make a string pouch. I've made a simple crochet cum fabric pouch for Faizon. I've also bought her some button makers, hopefully she can used it for her new projects. Actually I've tatted a small zip pouch, but I didn't send cos it wasn't nicely done... I promise to make her another one next time when my tatting is better.

IMG_2482

Managed to send it out before my delivery.

Last few weeks, I've received these from Faizon!

IMG_3066

IMG_3070

GOSH!!! Beautiful tatted pouch and a tatted mat... Besides that, a pair of tatting ear rings! And other stashes like needle holder, button and eyes! Loving all!!! Thanks Faizon. This is really a great exchange.

Tatted Doily

This is my first time completing a doily using tatting... And did it by the rule... =P Though it's small but I'm quite proud of it. I'll try to do a bigger one next time.

Tatting BUGS!

Gosh! Ever since I've met my tatting crafter friends, tatting bugs have never stop attacking me! I get so hooked to tatting that I tat everyday...

It has been awhile since I touched my shuttles... When I started, most of the pieces were done wrongly... Well, these are a few good one. Now I have mastered the art of UN-PICK! =P

It all started with Ellen's Simply Tree... I had redo the pattern, but still not as good...

IMG_2303

IMG_2299

I got this snowflake pattern from Faizon's Snowflake Collections. I bought from her and never had a chance to try. I LOVE her patterns! They are so challenging and interesting.

IMG_2308

This snowflake pattern from Faizon's Snowflake Collections too. However, in her pattern there are 6 motifs but I only did 5... :( So, lazy to un-pick so just keep on doing... Well, it's not so nice, still can find some flaws... I'm still practicing... Hehehehehe

IMG_2307

This pattern is from one of the Japanese tatting book.

Currently, I'm doing a pouch... Do bit by bit everyday.. =P

Tatters Gathering DAY!

We had a tatters gathering last Saturday. It has been awhile since I've met my fellow tatters. The last gathering was at Ellen's place.. This time, we decided to meet at Toa Payoh's Sizzler.

Actually there were 6 of us. But Jackie was down with flu and Wendy had something on, so only Aileen, Ellen, Rei and myself turned out to the gathering. Though just a small group, we were HAVING LOTS of FUN!

We were there from 1:30pm 'till 7pm!!! 5 and half long hours!! To our surprise, the staffs at the restaurant never chase us out but kept refilling our waters... GOOD SERVICE!

We chatted for hours, then later, we did some tatting. We were making Ellen's Simply Tree. She wrote the pattern herself.

Note: Picture abstracted from Ellen's blog.

It is a simple but very comprehensive pattern! It covers split chain & split ring. I never learn how to do it before.. It's a blessing to have both Ellen & Aileen taught me how to do it... :)

Aileen - reading the pattern

Rei - Seriously doing her tatting

IMG_2213

Ellen - who looks so chirpy that day. :)

Our Work

The last bottom piece was mine. I didn't complete the pattern cos I was using very fine thread, Flora 50!!! Even Ellen and Aileen seldom use such a fine thread to tat... But I love the variegated colors of the thread.

Guess what Rei made for us!

IMG_2208

It's a CAKE!!! The cake was covered with a layer of marshmallow fondant and decorated with sugar paste shuttles & shuttle needles... Well, the only real thing on the cake was the thread... SHE MADE EVERYTHING HERSELF!! We asked Rei whether was it tedious to make this cake? She said, not really but it was tedious to roll that three balls of thread... Hahahaha....

IMG_2210

IMG_2215

Rei with her cake

IMG_2221

Don't they look alike?? (the one on the left is real shuttle)

Throughout the end of the day, we decided to cut the cake, cos we were curious how the cake taste like... It was coffee & chocolate... Simply DELICIOUS...

IMG_2216

Rei was dismantling the cake... :(

IMG_2219

It's a coffee and chocolate pound cake!

I've been reading Rei's blog since I've picked up baking... Getting to know her was really my pleasure, she is a lady full of talents & creativity. She picked up everything on her own, including tatting!!

Oh YEAH, this is our group photo:

Tatted Pouch

FINALLY!!! I've completed this small little pouch... Gosh, took me weeks to complete.. Mmm not so neat but I'm quite satisfied with the work. I don't think I would want to make another one unless I'm very very free!

Bookmark, Bracelet Or...

I love this pattern very much... I've tatted one with beads and the other one without. Last night, manage to get the smallest crochet needle from Clover and is mainly used for Bobbin Lace. I'm totally lose of what should I make out of these pattern... Should it be a bookmark or bracelet or .....? Any idea?

Rose Tatting

FINALLY!! I've completed a "5 days on bus" tatting project... This project involves 1 shuttle, 1 ball of thread & 1 crochet needle ... Since I've bought the Aero Shuttle from Jane that comes with a crochet needle attached to the shuttle... So, this project became very handy and I can do it when I was outdoor. However, it took me around 5 days to complete. Of course, I didn't do it 24 hours per day la.. Everyday, I'll spend around an hour to two on this project When I'm at home, I'll do another project (hopefully I can complete by this week)... ;)

IMG_0123

The pattern is in a strip.. Then, I need to roll it into a rose... I got this pattern from a Japanese craft friend that belongs to my friend who is also my crafting 'kaki' (means buddy)... Hehehe....

4 Tatting Shuttles and 7 crochet needles...

Wow... Diane has 114 tatting shuttles!!!!

Mmm I have 4 tatting shuttles.... and 7 crochet needles (from smallest size of 0.6mm to largest size of no.10)

allshuttle

These are my shuttle collections... Did you see there's one shuttle at the far right corner... That's the new shuttle I bought all the way from London. It is called Aero Shuttle and was sold by this lovely lady called Jane (she's 65).... ;)

The unique characteristics of Aero Shuttle:

  1. It has a crochet needle hook at the tip
  2. Has bobbin...

The rest of the shuttles are bought from clover...

Tatting Practice

Still practicing on my tatting....

practicetatting

Cut, pull, unpick, join... Gosh!!! Been doing that again and again and again... Finally this is the result... Hehehehe....

Currently, working on another project.... Kinda challenging... Keep you posted....

First Tatting Project

*Tatting is addictive...*

Well, I had attended two unofficial lessons from a friend... Finally I've completed this project:

covered openview

Look simple but took me few hours to complete. I've unpick, cut & redo many times in order to get it right... Phew, finally I've completed it... I'm quite happy, though not so perfect yet.

I've pasted the pattern on a plain jewelry box. Mmm, the simple pattern makes a lot of different on the plain box! The box looks rather elegant with the pattern & beads. Don't you think so?

Per-order method: need your opinions

I may make a few of these and sell it in my Etsy store. I may do something different this time by using pre-order method. Interested buyer will place order as in size and color of the box & the yarn color (base on the available sizes I have). I'm not sure this method will work, if you have opinion, please feel free to comment.
